The Dawn to Dust Mountain Bike Club was started in March of 1992 by Dana Thornhill and Tommy
Ocasio. The club started simply as a Sunday morning riding group and within a few months led to
including Saturdays as well.
Eventually an Executive branch was developed, choosing from the most dedicated riders. A set of
guidelines was then established for all members, which included the club's purpose and mission
statement. The goal was to set up and lead as many rides as possible. This attitude brought the club to
a new level. Daily rides were offered for anyone of any age that was willing to ride the rocky terrain of
Sierra Vista. Yes, the riding was hard, but not for competition purposes. The first rule in the club was to
never leave anyone behind regardless of the time spent waiting. This rule made riding FUN not hard.
The club now contains men and women of all ages, from the expert racer to the first time rider. Anyone
may participate in club rides regardless of membership status. Besides riding, the club also plays
mountain bike hockey, rides urban trials, and participates in crazy races!
