If you're looking for a ride to take the family on, or aren't ready for the technical rides just yet, then this
ride may be what you're looking for. Plus, the ecosystem within Garden Canyon is quite stunning. The
ride is on dirt roads the entire way, so technically speaking, there are few spots that will be
challenging for most riders. The challenge of Garden Canyon to Gate 7 is a multi-purpose ride. If
you're looking for a training ride, a ride to bring the this ride is that it's entirely uphill, and as you can
see from the elevation profile, the slope can hurt. On a technical scale of 1 to 10, with Brown Canyon
you go, the more technical the road is to navigate. Be especially careful of the concrete wash ways on
the way down. You will generally be riding over these concrete slabs at angles other than 90 degrees,
while turning, with water present...locals have plenty of stories about the carnage these things have
caused.

Start your ride at either the
Lower Garden Canyon parking area or the Upper Garden Canyon parking
area depending on the length of the ride you are hoping to complete (the maps at the top of this page
start at the Upper Garden Canyon parking area). Some riders start at various points in town to
increase the ride length for training reasons. Whatever you decide, Fort Huachuca rides will
necessitate that you bring proper documentation to the entrance gate in order to be granted access to
the base. Call Sun 'N Spokes for up-to-date information on what is required.
Once you are underway, the route is straight forward as long as you stay on the main road, which is
easy to distinguish. Once you reach the old Boy Scout Cabin (Sawmill Canyon on the topo map),
follow the road to the right (north/northwest) and keep heading up. There will be several roads that
deviate from the main path (review the maps at the top of this page for clarification). Once at Gate 7,
turn around and head home!

Be sure to stop at the wooden bridge on the right hand side of the road about halfway up to check out
the historical site. There are other sites along the way and should be pretty obvious if you're looking
out for them. Be heads up for vehicle traffic, and if its recently rained, you and your bike could be a
mucky mess by the time you finish. Just think, some people spend hundreds of dollars on mud baths
and you just picked one up for free...as long as you didn't break anything, ouch!
